Professor Simon Gosling interviewed on BBC News channel

Professor Simon Gosling was interviewed on the BBC News channel (international) on 19 June about extreme heat events that were occurring in many parts of the world that week, including in Greece, India, the US and Saudi Arabia.

Simon spoke in a segment with one of the BBC weather forecasters, Chris Fawkes. The discussion focussed on the causes of extreme heat, like the Jet Stream, and Simon provided some background context that helped to explain why these heat events are such a major departure from past conditions.

Simon explained how with continued global warming we can expect more frequent and more extreme heatwaves around the world. This means reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as developing ways to adapt to a warmer climate are going to be really important. Such changes will be needed to help make our homes, working environments, schools, hospitals and other places both inside and out, comfortable in the future.
