UK Summer Schools

The Global Engagement team offers tailored summer school programmes to our overseas partner universities.

We work with our partner universities to create individual programmes to suit students requirements. Our programmes include academic sessions and cultural excursions to offer students a snapshot of life as a student at the University of Nottingham and the city.

Case studies

Global Engagement has hosted successful summer schools for partner universities, our most recent summer schools have been created for the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, Ritsumeikan University, Japan and students from the Faculty of Engineering's partner universities in China and India. 

All students who participate in our summer school programmes are fully registered as University of Nottingham students, enabling them to access the same facilities and services on campus as our full degree students.

 

Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 
Pharmacy and English language summer school

The University of Nottingham hosted TUTCM for four consecutive years at our UK Campus. In the first year, Nottingham hosted 40 students for a three week programme, the success of the programme led to an increase to 60 students in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The course was initially created to compliment the UK-China joint pharmacy course and to offer students an insight into studying at Nottingham prior to transferring onto the UK part of the joint programme. Since then, the course has opened up to TUTCM students studying other science-related academic disciplines. 

Past courses have included the following features:

  • Tuition with our School of Pharmacy, including academic field trips
  • English language tuition and British culture workshops with our Centre for English Language Education (CELE)
  • Cultural excursions to local places of interest within the East Midlands and other UK cities including Cambridge and York
  • Airport transfer services
  • Orientation programme including campus tours, student ID cards and welcome packs
  • Catered student accommodation and a daily lunch allowance
  • Nottingham City Transport travel cards
  • Sports Centre access

The course features are adapted each year in response to student feedback to offer a programme that best suits students requirements.

 

 

Ritsumeikan University
English language summer school

In 2016, 30 students from Ritsumeikan University participated in a four week English language summer school, the success of this programme led to a subsequent programmes in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The course was created to offer an intensive English language programme for Ritsumeikan University students, along with cultural excursions within the East Midlands and further afield to compliment the course content.

Past courses have included the following features:

  • English language tuition and British culture workshops with our Centre for English Language Education (CELE)
  • Cultural excursions to local places of interest within the East Midlands and other UK cities including Cambridge and London
  • Airport transfer services
  • Orientation programme including campus tours, student ID cards and welcome packs
  • Catered student accommodation and a daily lunch allowance
  • Nottingham City Transport travel cards
  • Sports Centre access

The course features are adapted each year in response to student feedback.

 

Faculty of Engineering
Summer School

In 2019, 35 students from five of the Faculty of Engineering's partner universities in China and India participated in a two week summer school, focussing on the subjects of Advanced Computing and Robotics and Dynamics along with cultural excursions within the East Midlands and further afield to compliment the course.

The course included the following features:

  • Tuition with our Faculty of Engineering
  • Cultural excursions to local places of interest within the East Midlands and a trip to Cambridge
  • Airport transfer services
  • Orientation programme including campus tours and welcome packs
  • Catered student accommodation and a daily lunch allowance
  • Sports Centre access

The course features are adapted each year in response to student feedback.
