About the School

Welcome to the School of Health Sciences.
Our award-winning school has an outstanding reputation for teaching and research excellence.

We aim to educate and nurture the best and brightest students who will go on to transform the lives of individuals and communities locally, nationally and internationally. We also lead research in health and well-being across the lifespan focusing on local, national and global priorities.

The School of Health Sciences research is organised through groups, centres and institutions. Our research was ranked joint 4th in the UK for it's research quality following publication of the REF2021 results in a joint submission with colleagues from Pharmacy and Medicine. 96% of our submitted research was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent and our research environment was rated 100% world-leading.

In terms of our educational provision, we are dedicated to excellence and innovation in healthcare education. Our school boasts two National Teaching Fellows, year on year success in Lord Dearing awards for excellence and innovation in education, sustained excellence in student evaluation of teaching results and rising NSS scores across our undergraduate courses.

Our apprenticeship programme also helped the University achieve an award of ‘Good’ in a recent OFSTED inspection, with areas of Outstanding also being recognised.

The school offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as CPD opportunities for a professional partners and represents a truly international learning environment with 15 different healthcare associated professional groups (including nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dieticians and paramedics and clinical psychologists) from 30 different countries around the world currently represented.

Perhaps most importantly we operate a partnership working model of education by actively engaging our students in developing the environment in which they learn, and supporting them to become the best healthcare professional they can be. Our staff and students are routinely shortlisted for national awards for their contribution to healthcare.

Comments left by our students in relation to their experience of studying with us include;

Coming to the University of Nottingham has been such an incredible experience. I have put a lot into my time here and Nottingham has given me a lot back. The staff have been fantastic and most of them have provided above and beyond what their job title is, from academic support to pastoral care. I highly recommend the University of Nottingham to any potential student, and would do it all over again if I could.

Fantastic university. An honour to study here. I have had such amazing opportunities offered to me whilst a student here! I don't want to finish and will definitely be studying postgraduate here! Through the standards of education and opportunities offered to me, I have even been short-listed for a national award for my achievement!

Personally, it is a privilege to lead such a dynamic team of committed, motivated and enthusiastic staff and to be a part of developing a workforce who will be the healthcare leaders of the future.

We are committed to fostering an environment that cultivates learning, research, and clinical practice to advance healthcare outcomes within the NHS and globally, and we look forward to you joining us on this journey.
