Last week Dr Ada Hui, Teaching and Research Associate at the Institute of Mental Health, received the prestigious Mary Seacole Leadership Award at the Royal College of Obstetricians in London.

Ada was one of three outstanding healthcare professionals rewarded for their contribution to the health of black and ethnic minority (BME) communities.

Ada was granted the award in recognition of her innovative ideas and dedication to improving the care and outcomes of mental health service users. Funding from this award will be used to explore the lived experiences of BME patients within a high security hospital.

Janet Fyle, professional policy advisor at the Royal College of Midwives and chair of the Mary Seacole steering group committee, said “Today is…just the beginning for our three development awardees and a fantastic opportunity for them to come back next year to showcase their talents and inspire other healthcare professionals to do the same in the future.”

Janet Davies, chief executive and general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, echoed: “These projects will have a real impact on the lives of patients, and demonstrate what nurses can achieve by harnessing their ideas and expertise.”

Further information about the awards is available in the Nursing Times article

Congratulations, Ada!
