On the 1 August 2013 the University established the School of Health Sciences (SHS) as one of four Schools in the restructured Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The new School enters this period of its development from a position of strength in terms of the quality of teaching and learning and research where it is among the UK’s top five Schools for nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy. Significant challenges lie ahead to sustain, and improve our standing nationally and internationally. The School is determined to address these challenges.
We will continue to deliver excellent education, conduct outstanding research, inspire our staff and students to transform the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities whilst making an enlightened and valued contribution to society. The School will be driven by values that include nurturing staff and students, upholding academic freedom and curiosity and exceeding expectations. Meanwhile we will remain locally relevant, nationally excellent, globally recognised and personally valued.
A recent email from a prospective applicant who had visited us with his parents as he toured the country contemplating which School he might choose in which to study nursing stated: “Honestly out of all of the universities I've seen, Nottingham stood out, and now I could not see myself anywhere else”. It is my hope that all prospective applicants and existing staff and students will feel similarly.
