One of the key aims of the Ingenuity network is to make University of Nottingham research accessible to the local business community. Falling in our Week of Wellbeing, this Ingenuity business engagement event on Tuesday 12 November 2018 focused on promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Kicking off the event was Dr Holly Blake, a chartered health psychologist and Associate Professor in Behavioural Science from the School of Health Sciences. Holly provided an insight into the impact of poor health and wellbeing in the workplace exploring how both absenteeism and presenteeism can be incredibly damaging to a business. She presented the case for organisational investment in wellbeing programmes. Holly shared insights from her own research programme and case examples of workplace initiatives to promote physical and mental wellbeing.
Holly was joined by Dr Tim Brabants MBE, an alumnus of the University. He shared his own personal experiences of the importance of health and wellbeing in his career as an elite athlete as well as a medical doctor. Tim talked us through his sporting journey to winning Gold in 2008 at the Beijing Olympic games, and shared a number of transferable skills he learnt throughout his journey: team work, work ethic, communication, motivation, and taking individual responsibility for health and wellbeing.
With 91 delegates registered at the event, the room was packed and delegates praised the session for “offering the opportunity to reflect”, being “inspiring and insightful” and “a thought provoking morning”.
