Health scientists take workplace health innovation to the construction industry

The School of Health Sciences is leading on innovations in workplace health and wellbeing. We are currently working with our partners in the third sector to increase access to health checks in the construction industry.

We will be providing free general health checks to construction workers at multiple UK sites, and evaluating staff and manager opinions on this approach to promoting health at work. The events will include a range of optional checks for workers such as HIV testing, BMI, blood glucose and blood pressure, tailored health advice, mental health and musculoskeletal awareness, and take-away resources.

For employers that sign up to receive the health checks, we have developed a digital toolkit that will provide them with additional information and guidance around health screening at work.

This project is funded by Gilead Sciences, Inc. and builds on the Healthy Hub Roadshow,  a programme of work that was funded by Public Health England.

Dr Holly Blake - health psychologist (project lead)
Dr Catrin Evans - nurse/HIV & migrant health
Sarah Somerset - health researcher
Jenny Hand - CEO of Reaching People, Leicester.

If you are from the construction industry and would like to be a host site, or if you would like more information about the project then please contact the project researcher: sarah.somerset@nottingham.ac.uk or the project lead for the Test@Work Study: holly.blake@nottingham.ac.uk
