RLO:What are journals?

How are journals organised?

Let us look at how journals are organised. Each journal is split firstly into volumes. Each volume is then subdivided into issues or parts, depending on how often the journal is published. A reference for a journal article should always include the author of the article, the year of publication and the title of the article, followed by the title of the journal, volume number, issue number and page numbers.

The above article has been published in volume 16, issue 4 of the journal entitled "British Journal of Special Education" published in 2003 and you will find the article on pages 3 to 12.

Now try the following activity. You will see the different elements of a journal reference. Try and put the elements in the correct order by dragging and dropping in the appropriate boxes.
