Incidence rate sound on image

In a factory employing 1,000 people a new chemical may be causing heart attacks.

Everyone has probably been exposed but, the exposure time for each person is different.

Here's the total exposure in days over the course of a year:

20 days + 50 days + 2 days... and so on.

total = 31654 days or 31654/365.25 = 86.66 years

And the number of heart attacks in the period in people who have been exposed at all = 27

So here's the incidence rate: 27/86.66 = 0.312 cases/person year at risk or 31.2 cases/100 person years risk.
