There are many factors which could influence a person’s ability to carry out a task. They include how difficult the task seems to the patient, any disabilities they might have, environmental factors, such as noise and distractions and their confidence at achieving the task.

The words we use can make a task appear easier and increase the chance that the task is successfully carried out.
