Chronic Wound Assessment
Factors affecting healing
The following factors can affect the healing of chronic wounds:
- Long term conditions such as diabetes or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
- Medication
such as steroids or diuretics.
- Reduction
in tissue oxygenation eg peripheral vascular disease, smoking.
- Poor
nutritional state.
- Presence
of infection.
- Older
age.
- Socioeconomic
issues affecting care - ability to pay for prescriptions, accessing transport
for care.
