2. What is a unit of alcohol?
In order to help us understand levels of alcohol consumption, we use the term ‘units’ of alcohol.
A unit of alcohol equates to 10ml or 8g or pure alcohol, which is around the amount of alcohol the average adult can process in an hour.
One unit of alcohol
Half pint of regular beer, cider or lager.
Half a small glass of wine.
One single measure of spirits.
One small glass of sherry.
One single measure of aperitif.Drinks higher than a single unit
A pint of regular beer, cider or lager.
A pint of strong beer, cider or lager.
Alcho-pop or 275ml of bottle of regular lager
A 440ml can of regular lager or cider.
A 440ml can of super strength lager.
A large glass of wine.
