Rocket

Rocket, Eruca sativa, is also known as arugula in America. This edible plant is in the Brassicaceae family which includes many well-known plants such as broccoli, cabbage and kale. It has been part of our diet since Roman times.

This plants root system consists of multiple main roots that branch to form a dense system of roots.

3D Root Architecture

This video shows the root development of a young rocket plant, consisting of the main stem branching into three main roots which show a strong downward gravitropic response. Branching from these main roots are many laterals which form a mat of roots exploring the soil medium often branching again and again as they develop.
