A new series of archaeology talks and activities that focus on archaeological work as it is happening will take place at the University of Nottingham Museum.
Archaeological work is happening all around us but, due to the lengthy excavating and recording process, we do not usually hear about the results until a couple of years after it has taken place.
These talks allow professional archaeologists, related specialists and community groups to share their exciting work with us as it is happening and will include local, regional, national and international projects. Please see the attachment for the first two talks.
The first talk is given by Chrysanthi Gallou from the Department of Archaeology at the university of Nottingham:
Some time before the Spartans: life and death in southern Laconia (Greece) in the Bronze Age (c. 3000-1100 BC) - Thursday 25 October.
Sparta, in southern Greece, is well known for its brave warriors of the sixth and fifth century BC. However, by examining recent work this lecture will provide an insight into the life and activities of the earlier people of the region (c. 3000-1100 BC) and their contacts throughout the Mediterranean.
Following the talk Chrysanthi Gallou will discuss the pottery from Cyprus on display in the Museum.
With Dr Chrysanthi Gallou, University of Nottingham Department of Archaeology and Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies.
Please note this talk will now take place in the Performing Art Studio in Lakeside Art Centre (49 on the University Map)
