Menander in Contexts

Continuing the Menander theme…

The conference 'Menander in Contexts', held at Nottingham in July 2012, has now generated a book with the same title, edited by Prof Alan Sommerstein and published by Routledge, in which 17 scholars from seven countries look at the connections of Menander’s comedies with the society of his time, with earlier drama, with contemporary philosophy (he was a pupil of Theophrastus, the successor of Aristotle), and with posterity from ancient Greek grammarians to modern Greek TV soaps.

Even before publication the book has been fruitful, forming part of the inspiration for a recent Nottingham MA dissertation and a PhD proposal!
