Dr Gary Priestnall from the School of Geography has been researching what was the first 'mathematically accurate' 3D relief model of the Lake District. Working with Dr Katharina Lorenz at the Digital Humanities Centre, he was able to digitally capture 140 negative moulds used in the creation of the model. This enabled him to accurately replicate missing tiles from Mayson's Ordanance Model of the Lake District, details of which can be found on the University's blog.
The results will be on show at a new exhibition, The Grandest Views: Models of Lakeland from Victorian Times to the Present Day, which will be unveiled on Monday 9 February at Keswick Museum and Art Gallery. The exhibition was also featured on Countryfile at on Sunday 18 January on BBC One and can be found on the BBC iPlayer.
