Students Megan McGuire; Cecily Tomlinson; Dominic Howlet; Paige Alkalil

Students from the Department of Theology and Religious Studies attended the unveiling of the Mansfield Quakers Memorial Plaque and launch of the Heritage Trail on Saturday 25 April.

The second year students - Megan McGuire, Cecily Tomlinson, Dominic Howlet and Paige Alkalil - had all been involved in researching, writing and recording the Heritage Trail, which takes in 10 places in Mansfield linked with Quaker history.

The event, sponsored by Nottingham County Council, was held in the Mansfield Bus Station, which was built on the site of the original Quaker Meeting House and burial ground. Dr Frances Knight, who provided background support for the project said: ‘I’m very proud of what the students have achieved. They rapidly got to grips with Mansfield’s forgotten Quaker past and have brought it back to life in a lively and interesting way.’

For more on the Quakers in Mansfield, and the making of the audio tour, read Frances’s blog. If you’re planning to visit Mansfield and do the audio tour, it can be downloaded to your device.
