PhD student Cesar Moreno Zayas nominated for the Carlos Fuente prize

PhD student Cesar Moreno Zayas has been nominated for the prestigious Carlos Fuente prize by the Mexican Government.

This award was established in 2013 in honour of the writer and diplomat Carlos Fuentes - sponsor and friend of the MexSoc UK - to honour and recognise Mexican students who have strengthened Mexican identity in the UK through their efforts and dedication. The result will be announced on 25 June 2014.

Cesar’s doctoral dissertation analyses the experience of opera in the UK – the relationship between the decisions taken by opera directors and management and the experience of audiences in the auditorium – which he is approaching from sociological as well as musicological perspectives. He has been active in establishing contacts with scholars and theatres in Europe (including the Royal Opera House in London and the Liceu in Barcelona), and has organised events in Nottingham and in Mexico (including ‘Opera Indoors/Outside’ in Nottingham, and the first International Congress on Opera in Mexico).
