Biography
I am a music historian focusing on the traditions of Hindustani classical music in the twentieth century. My PhD at King's College London examined the relationship between Hindustani music and the English language in the long twentieth century. My research interests include cultural encounters between the subcontinent and the West, anecdotal histories of music, and the changing meanings of canonical and popular musical forms. I am invested in exploring informal cultural archives and music collections, and exploring their potential to enrich, complicate, and subvert known forms of knowledge.
