Programme Workstrands

In order to achieve our vision of creating a Digital Research environment with enhanced and digitally enabled discovery at every aspect of the Research Lifecycle, we have developed a substantial, three year programme of work, which falls into four work-strands:

  • Manage & Streamline
  • Explore & Engage
  • Open & Reproduce
  • Digital Capability, Culture & Change

Each of the work-strands contains a number of projects which are designed to empower our researchers’ to discover new Data, Insights and People. Find out more about each specific work-strand below.

Manage & Streamline

The objective of this work-strand is to digitally enhance research workflows and formalise research data management by providing tools and expertise to streamline research procedures. This work-strand will implement capabilities that establish a ‘born digital’ approach to data capture/management, research processes/workflows and equipment management. This will be achieved through both discipline-specific and generic solutions that acknowledge the breadth of research processes within the university.

Explore & Engage

This work-strand will provide interactive tools for researchers to explore their data in new ways. This includes software and expertise to support researchers in data visualisation and presentation as well as the use of immersive environments to explore collaboratively and to navigate, manipulate and present datasets.

Open & Reproduce

This work-strand aims to establish digital preservation environments to support reproducible research and digital components for the creation of self-contained, integrated, online sites supporting research communities of practice. The work-strand will look to create a centrally-hosted solution that allows researchers to preserve research environments - not just data – and access these, allowing for high-fidelity reproduction and verification of research.

Digital Capability, Change & Culture

This work-strand will seek to enhance digital research capabilities across the University’s research community and embed lasting positive change. The roles within this work-strand will promote uptake of the tools and methodologies of digital research, and encourage positive behavioural change across the entire research community and beyond.
