Transformation of Chemistry and Pharmacy Degree Provision is associated with three industrially oriented organisations, The International Pharmaceutical Federation, the Kenyan Association of Manufacurers, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, to help reach its goals.
Founded in 1912 is the global body representing pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Through 140 national organisations, academic institutional members and individual members, they represent over three million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists around the world. FIP Education (or FIPEd) is bringing together all of FIP's education actions; strengthening projects and partnerships with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with UNESCO. FIPEd is working to stimulate transformational change in pharmaceutical education and engender the development of science and practice, towards meeting present and future societal and workforce needs around the world. They are advocating for the use of needs-based strategies where pharmacy education is socially accountable, where practice and science are evidence-based and practitioners have the required competencies to provide the needed services to their communities. The UNITWIN Global Pharmacy Education Development Network and the Centre of Excellence for Pharmacy Education in Africa were established in 2010. The network focusses on the following domains: global higher education, global higher education development with a special interest in Africa and other low income countries, empowerment of women pharmaceutical scientists and academics, sustainable health workforce development, academic capacity building, quality assurance issues, and accreditation standards.
KAM is the representative organisation for manufacturing in Kenya. As a private sector body, they act to unite industrialists, offer a common voice for businesses and importantly, provide an essential link for co-operation, dialogue and understanding with the Kenyan government. KAM acts to promote competitive local manufacturing with core values based around innovation, effectiveness, responsiveness and resilience. As part of their advocacy remit, KAM plays a crucial role in encouraging the Kenya government to create an environment that is conducive to entrepreneurship and SME development so as to secure the future of the manufacturing sector. KAM also provides the necessary strategic leadership in supporting SMEs within the manufacturing sector towards inclusive global competitiveness by offering training and capacity development that are aimed at improving sector productivity and competitiveness.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) is a representative organization that was formed to enable Pharmacists' to employ their professional expertise in the care of patients. Established in 1964, PSK has its roots in the Pharmaceutical Society of East Africa, which was registered in 1950.
PSK's main objectives are:
- To advance the practice of Pharmacy
- To create and maintain a standard for professional conduct and code ethics
- To foster a high standard of control over the quality and distribution of medicines and other pharmaceutical products.
- To promote the role of Pharmacists as integral members of the healthcare team to ensure rational drug use
- To facilitate information exchange between PSK members, other healthcare professionals, consumers, pharmaceutical and allied industries.
PSK was established due to the need to enhance the quality of Pharmacy practice and keep members up-to-date with changes in Pharmacy practice, the law relating to Pharmacy and the latest technology applicable to Pharmacy.
