There's a host of events and activities taking place across our libraries this month to celebrate Black History Month including a live poetry reading, poetry discussion group, film screening and the opportunity to suggest titles for our reading list and library collections.

Is there a title missing from the list or our collections? Let us know the book's title, author and why you're recommending it and we'll add it to our reading list. We try to purchase as many suggested titles as possible for our collections.

Free screening of A Dark Mind documentary
Thursday 20 October from 6pm, Hallward Library screening room
A Dark Mind shines a light on mental health within the Black community and highlights the experiences of six Black British people. The documentary seeks to remove the taboo, challenge the stigma and initiate change.

Black Voices: Fiction and Poetry reading
Tuesday 25 October from 6pm (refreshments from 5.30pm), Hallward Library cafe
Join Libraries for an evening of poetry and fiction at Hallward Library. Writers and poets Tamar Dixon, Ravelle-Sadé Fairman and C.A. Whittingham will share their work and give an insight into their creative process before opening for questions from the audience.
No need to book, just drop in for this free event.
Reading group discussion of 'More Fiya: A New Collection of Black British Poetry'
Wednesday 26 October from 6pm, George Green Library
Join Libraries for a reading group discussion of five poems from More Fiya, a brilliant new anthology of Black British poetry assembled by poet, editor and DJ Kayo Chingonyi.
Libraries have a limited number of copies of More Fiya to giveaway to students who sign up for the event. Sign up quick and let us know on the form if you would like a copy.
A copy is also available in Hallward Library. You can request it online via NUsearch for delivery to your preferred library.
