New for 2018 – BSc Sport and Exercise Science

SES-article

The School of Life Sciences has launched a new BSc Sport and Exercise Science course for September 2018 entry.

Ideal for those with an interest in sport and the biomedical sciences, this course will provide students with thorough scientific knowledge into why and how the body functions during and after sport and exercise.

The curriculum has enhanced scientific content, providing students with a strong understanding of the three main branches of sport and exercise science – physiology, biomechanics and psychology. Other topics covered include biochemistry, cell biology, advanced mathematics, nutrition, human anatomy and sports medicine. By choosing a course with an emphasis on science and health, students will have the skills to choose from a range of career options.

As well as a detailed research project, in the third year there are a variety of optional advanced modules. These give students a chance to explore new topics or expand their knowledge in an area they already have an interest in.

Placements within the University and the UK also form part of the course, as well as coaching qualifications and a first aid course.

Students will benefit from brand new exercise physiology, psychology and human movement laboratories in the £40m David Ross Sports Village. They’ll also be able to take advantage of facilities in the Medical School, which include an anatomy suite, functional sports medicine lab and the Greenfield Medical Library.

Find out more about the new course by visiting the online prospectus.
