The University of Nottingham’s SpiderLab research group, has launched a crowdfunder to turn an old aquarium on campus into an ‘arachnarium’ where its ever-growing collection of spiders can be housed for research and public outreach. The team want to expand their range of species and top of the wishlist is a specimen of the biggest spider in the world – the Goliath Bird Eating Tarantula – which can grow to a leg span of 30cm.
The arachnarium will be a valuable new facility that aims to broaden knowledge on spider science in schools, in university teaching and for members of the public.
