Welcome to our new website

Welcome to our new-look website!

We have spent the past few months transferring over 800 web pages into the University's new Content Management System. The new look is cleaner, sleeker and more attractive.

We have also taken the opportunity to review the structure of our web pages, following feedback and evaluations by users and staff.

The new website should be easier to navigate and regular visitors will notice quite a few changes throughout the site. Here are some other important improvements:

  • Search box is available on any page in our main website. This does not search our catalogues, but will help you find information on our web pages.
  • site map and an A-Z list of web pages are also available from any point in the main website.
  • Information about available catalogues for all types of holdings has been brought together into one page.
  • All Collections gives information about the scope of our holdings, breaking them down into different categories, and will help users find collections, catalogues and web pages relevant to their research.
  • Collections in context offers more detailed guidance about particular themes or collections, which regular visitors might remember from our old website. Here you will find:
  • Learning Resources and Research Guidance (formerly Skills) have been split into two separate sections, enabling us to develop additional material for both areas. These pages contain guided learning on particular themes, suitable for post-16 students and lifelong learners.
  • Schools Resources, offering free activity plans and source material for teachers, have a higher profile in the new site.
  • Exhibitions and Gallery merges online visual resources with details about the current and forthcoming Weston Gallery exhibitions that are held at Lakeside Arts Centre, University Park.
  • Online Exhibitions brings together previous Weston Gallery exhibitions and other online exhibitions which highlight items from our holdings.
Spotlight on the Collections is here, as are the two Xerte exhibitions, Robin Hood and Sport, which have been re-branded as 'Focus on...' exhibitions. We plan to add more of these brief online exhibitions on particular themes.
  • Digital Gallery (formerly Visual Resources) also has a new look, and allows users to browse or search through collections of images from our holdings.
  • Visiting the Reading Room now brings together all the vital information about our location, opening times, facilities, registration procedures and regulations.
  • Reprographics now has a section of its own, giving advice on requesting copies of items from our holdings.
  • Researchers wanting to contact us will now find our contact details at the bottom of every page. Contact Us offers simplified online forms for making enquiries.
  • About Us includes information about our remit, our policies and the history of the department, and provides links to related organisations. The section also contains information about the Designation Scheme, and the special projects that we undertake.
