New collections
In 2009, new descriptions of 12 collections were released on the Manuscripts Online Catalogue . The hyperlinks in the descriptions below take you to a more detailed catalogue entry.
• The Philip Lyth collection (MS 823 ) contains over 1,000 colour slides taken between the 1960s and 1990s. The slides mainly relate to the Southwell area of Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands in general, but also feature other places in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Lecture notes and research papers provide the context for the slides, which Philip Lyth used as teaching aids in adult education courses about Nottinghamshire agricultural history.
• Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury (1527-1608), 'Bess of Hardwick', is the subject of collection MS 663 . The collection contains microfilms, photocopies and transcriptions of 16th and early-17th century manuscripts held in other repositories, which were collected by David N. Durant in the course of his research for a book in the 1970s.
• A small collection of photographs and newspaper cuttings (MS 567 ) relates to a former Principal of University College, Nottingham, Harry A.S. Wortley (1885-1947), and his daughter Glenys Wortley (1916-2006).
• The Miscellaneous Deeds collection (MD ) has been available for many years, but was only partly catalogued. In 2009 descriptions of the second section of the collection (MD 489-701) were added to the online catalogue.
• A general description of Manuscript material from the Briggs Collection of Educational Literature, 1744-1974 (B Ed ) was already available on the online catalogue, but now researchers can see detailed descriptions of individual items, over 200 in total.
