On the 20th October, the new School of Mathematical Sciences Building was officially opened by Sir Adrian Smith, a former University of Nottingham Mathematical Sciences Professor and Head of School, who went on to have an illustrious career in Statistics, It included most recently an appointment as Director General of Science and Research at the Department for Innovation,Universitites and Skills.
The ceremony was attended by many former mathematics students and members of staff as well as university representatives, which included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, Professor David Greenaway.
After the speeches and opening ceremony, Sir Adrian Smith gave a lecture for the attendees, which was then followed by lunch.
The event was a successful occasion bringing together everyone involved in bringing the school together in a new building.
