Last month saw the beautiful city centre campus of the University of Helsinki host the European Meeting of Statisticians (EMS). The event is the main conference in statistics and probability in Europe where statisticians of all ages and from all regions meet to exchange ideas and talk about the newest developments on the broad field of statistics and probability theory. The programme consisted of invited and contributed lectures as well as posters, addressing a full range of subjects in statistics and its many applications.
PhD student Jessica Stockdale's poster 'Likelihood approximation methods for stochastic epidemic models' was recognised and awarded by the scientific committee as the best poster. Jessica is PhD student in the School of Mathematical Sciences, where she is working on computational methods for the statistical analysis of infectious disease data under the supervision of Professor Philip O’Neill.
We pass on our congratulations for this excellent achievement to Jessica.
