Care Homes

On Friday the 11th of March a multidisciplinary group of researchers and healthcare professionals from across Scotland gathered in Glasgow Caledonian University for this year’s NRS Ageing Scotland Meeting. This year’s meeting, entitled ‘The Care Connection: exploring new research opportunities between hospital and community' brought together those working at the interface of hospital and community care and those with an interest in care homes. Newsletter

Gordon A. 9th Feb 2014.  Dr Adam Gordon – BGS honorary secretary, was quoted in a piece in the Sunday Times about doctors secretly charging care homes for the basic treatment of older residents that should be provided free on the NHS. Dr Gordon said: “Where GPs were charging retainers to care homes, and care homes were then passing that cost on to the resident, the resident was effectively being asked to pay twice. That is unacceptable.” http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/article1373480.ece
