Biography
Dr Maura Corsetti is a Clinical Associate Professor in Gastroenterology at the University of Nottingham.
Maura Corsetti graduated in Medicine and obtained her Specialization (2000) and PhD (2004) at the Universita' degli Studi di Milano in Italy. During her PhD she worked for two years (2001-2002) as a research fellow in the Gastrointestinal Motility and Sensitivity Research Group of the Translational Research Centre for Gastrointestinal Disorders (TARGID), University of Leuven, Belgium, acquiring the expertise in the study of gastrointestinal motility and sensitivity in functional bowel disorders. For eight years (2004-2012), she was the clinical referral consultant for functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders at the San Raffaele University Hospital, Milan, Italy. This was a clinical appointment and didn't include specific time for research.
In 2012 she decided to move back to TARGID where she worked for four years as Senior Research Supervisor responsible for the development of the colonic high-resolution manometry. She is one of the two world expert in this technique.
In April 2016 Maura has been appointed as Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Nottingham where she leads the Gastroenterology Functional Clinic, the GI motility unit and has 5 PA dedicated to the academic work.
Maura is an internationally recognised expert in functional GI disorders and, in particular, in the study of GI motility as testified by her role as Clinical Editor of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, the official journal of the European (ESNM) and American Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, as secretary of the Neurogastroenterology and Motility, as member of the Food and Function Committees of the British Society of Gastroenterology, as ESNM representative at the United European Gastroenterology Scientific Committee and as Co-Chair of the Rome V Committee for Bowel Disorders.
