Academic Clinical Fellows
Daniele Scotto
"I am an ACF in Medical Oncology in the 2nd year of my fellowship at the University of Nottingham. I graduated from King’s College London in 2020, completed my foundation training in Essex, and started my academic clinical training in 2022.
"My main research interest is the role of immunosuppressive myeloid cells in cancer and my ACF project aims to characterise myeloid-derived suppressor cells and tumour-associated macrophages as potential therapeutic targets in glioblastoma, the most aggressive adult primary brain tumour.
"By studying the way glioblastoma cells influence monocyte differentiation and by analysing the effect of immunosuppressive myeloid cells isolated from surgical samples on T cell activation, we hope to gain a better understanding of the tumour’s immune microenvironment and how treatments may help overcome glioblastoma’s well-known resistance to immunotherapies.
"Our research is based at Nottingham’s Centre for Cancer Sciences and brings together immunologists, medical oncologists, and neurosurgeons with the aim of developing new treatments for glioblastoma."
