Academic Clinical Lecturers

Christabella Ng

“I hold a NIHR clinical lectureship post in paediatric respiratory medicine. During my PhD, I used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study the gut function and transit in cystic fibrosis. I have collaborated with multiple departments across the university to pursue my research interests using MRI. My current research aims to use MRI to assess lung structure and function in lung diseases such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and to use MRI in evaluating the effects of modulator therapies in cystic fibrosis.”

Academic Clinical Fellows

Senali Seneviratne

"I’m an Academic Paediatrics trainee at Nottingham. I completed medical school at the University of Birmingham and went on to do my Academic Foundation training in Leicester, where I worked with the Paediatric Respiratory medicine group during my academic rotation.

"My current research interests are on the use of metabolomics within Paediatric Oncology, particularly for the diagnosis and prognostication of childhood cancers.”

Rosalind Simpson

"I began my medical training in Yorkshire before coming to the East Midlands for paediatric training and my academic clinical fellowship. I chose Nottingham because of this university's excellent reputation for neonatal research.

"Supervised by Professor Don Sharkey, my research has focused on neonatal transport and technologies. Our team are developing novel devices to make journeys in between hospitals safer and more comfortable for babies who are born premature or sick.

"I have been lucky to work with some very talented engineers to develop prototypes for hearing protection, vibration dampening and crash safety. I have also spent time mapping the use of neonatal technologies in intensive care units and newborn delivery rooms across the UK."

Melissa-Sue Ryan

"I am an ST2 in paediatrics based in Nottingham. My research is with pre-term infants. My academic supervisor is Professor Shalini Ojha.

"We are using National Neonatal Research Database (NNRD) data to explore factors associated with exclusive mother’s own milk feeding in preterm infants and antenatal corticosteroid use in England and Wales. We hope to uncover infant and mother characteristics that will help us to increase the rate of breastfeeding in preterm infants. We would also like to know which antenatal steroids mothers who deliver preterm infants are receiving here and if this translates to the expected improvements in neonatal outcomes."
