Expertise summary

Dr Stockey is a historian of contemporary Spain, with a particular interest in the history of the Spanish Civil War, Franco dictatorship, and the debates over 'historical memory' in Spain since the transition to democracy. He has a long-standing interest in the history and politics of Gibraltar and its changing relationship with Spain.

Gibraltar; Spanish Civil War;   Franco dictatorship; archaeology, memory and tourism of the Spanish Civil   War.

He has given radio, television and online interviews for media agencies in Australia, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Japan, Russia, Spain and the United States.

He has acted as historical and/or factual consultant for radio, television and print-media output on the history and politics of Gibraltar, as well as the legacies of the Spanish Civil War and Franco dictatorship. He has written several blogs relating to his research and also contributed three invited articles to the New Statesman.

He is part of The University of Nottingham’s EU/Europe Expert Group.
