Key research areas are conflict and civil wars, peacekeeping and peace processes, and international military intervention. Most of Dr Dawson's work converges on Africa (e.g. conflict in Namibia and interventions in Somalia and Libya) in the post-1990 era.
Dr Dawson is interested in IR theory, and transnational history and politics as a perspective. He also has a teaching interest in China and the shift in global order.
He can comment on situations in Libya, Syria, China and the changing world order, uses of force with or without UN Security Council approval, new wars.
