Peripheral Nervous System Examination

Assessment of the Coordination and Function of the Upper and Lower Limbs

You may be able to have gained some information regarding limb function and coordination throughout the examination. For example by observing the patient's gait and undoing or fastening a button.

The following are examples of specific tests used to assess coordination:

Upper Limb

Finger-nose pointing
Assessment for dysdiadochokinesia

Lower Limb

Heel-to-shin test
Heel to toe walking
