The National Library for Health is launched on November 15th 2004 as part of Health Libraries Week. It replaces the National electronic Library for Health service previously available at http://www.nelh.nhs.uk.
The National Library for Health offers a number of developments:
Staff in the Greenfield Medical Library will be running a number of lunchtime sessions throughout the week to promote the new service and to take the opportunity to introduce the new ASCAS service to University and NHS staff and students.
ASCAS (Acute Services Current Awareness Service) is a multi-disciplinary information update service for clinical staff. ASCAS monitors over one hundred key websites and highlights new reports and guidelines relevant to the clinical information needs of specialist NHS staff. The project is funded by the Trent Workforce Development Confederation and is being developed by Nicola Darlington at the Greenfield Medical Library, University of Nottingham. In addition to the following sessions, the ASCAS service will also be promoted at sessions at the University of Nottingham at Derby Library on Thursday 18th at 12pm and the City Hospital Library on Friday 19th at 2.30pm.
Mon 15th Nov, 12-1: Drop-In session for the University’s eLibrary Gateway service. Find out how to cross search multiple resources; link to full text resources and create a customized Resource List of your favourite databases and ejournals.
Tues 16th Nov, 12.00-1.00: BIOME staff will demonstrate how to search for high quality internet resources in medicine and nursing using the OMNI and NMAP services and provide an overview of the RDN Virtual Training Suite.
Wed 17th Nov, 12.30-2.00: An overview of the new National Library for Health, the RDN Virtual Training Suite and ASCAS.
Thurs 18th Nov, 1.00-2.00: Launch of the RCN Resource Centre in the Greenfield Medical Library (situated near the photocopiers and the NHS Electronic Information Resource Room).
Fri 19th Nov, 12.00-1.00: An overview of the new National Library for Health and the new ASCAS service.
All sessions except the RCN launch will take place in room A36 in the Greenfield Medical Library.
