As part of the Country Lives: Exploring the English Countryside from 1800 exhibition, Lakeside Arts is hosting a special talk with David Matless, Professor of Cultural Geography at the University of Nottingham.David will explore the depiction of the English countryside in the 20th century, revealing how representations of rural landscapes reflect deeper cultural and political themes about England as a nation. Join Dr Sarah Holland, Associate Professor of History at the University of Nottingham for a guided walk around the historic University Park Campus. Using images and documents from the University of Nottingham's Manuscripts and Special Collections, this walk will explore the hidden histories still evident in the landscape and uncover some of the fascinating stories of people who lived and worked here over the last two centuries. Each year Being Human Festival invites researchers at universities and other research organisations to collaborate with local community and cultural partners to create exciting and engaging events and projects for all to enjoy. The festival coordinates hundreds of free events across the UK and beyond. Festival events aim to celebrate and demonstrate the ways in which the humanities inspire and enrich our everyday lives, help us to understand ourselves, our relationships with others, and the challenges we face in a changing world.
