Long distance atom guiding in hollow-core fibres       Universität Hamburg

Longdistance

In this project the ESR will build upon and extend the profound experience of the Hamburg partner in atom guidingthrough hollow core photonic band gap fibres. In order to make the atoms inside the fibres faithful quantum probes, they need to be transported to an interaction region, which can very well be situated several tens of centimetres outside the vacuum vessel needed for producing the quantum gas. The goal is thus to develop and experimentally realise reliable methods for guiding cold atoms over large distances and between separated vacuum vessels. The unique combination of quantum gas physics with state-of-the-art fibre technology will make the ESR a very desirable candidate for both industrial and academic partner.
