John’s research lies at the juncture of ecophysiology and quantitative genetics. He is interested in employing pragmatic approaches to answer keys questions surrounding the mechanisms that allow plants to adapt to climate change. He received his PhD from the University of Essex and was subsequently a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before joining Nottingham.
Presently, John is developing high-throughput methodologies that will facilitate rapid understanding of the photosynthetic response to heat stress in rice. Going forwards, these methodologies will be combined with genetic approaches to identify genes that can be targeted to develop climate resilient rice.
