Maureen is a PhD candidate with the International Agriculture DTP. Maureen's project is titled 'TempR: Developing reproductive resilience to heat stress in rice'. Her supervisors are Professor Zoe Wilson (University of Nottingham) and Dr Sigrid Heuer (Rothamsted Research).
Her research project focuses on characterizing the genetic basis and molecular mechanisms underlying reproductive heat tolerance as well as developing rice germplasm resilient to the rising global temperatures.
Through integration of molecular, genomics and phenotyping tools, genetic traits conferring tolerance to heat stress will be identified for deployment in rice improvement programs. Prior to enrolling for her PhD studies, Maureen worked as a research technician at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, in Kenya.
