Bangladesh-India Climate Change and Migration Pilot Study

bangladesh

Rights Lab project lead: Bethany Jackson
Funder: Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD)
Duration:  June 2022 – Dec 2023
Programme: Measurement and Geographies

We are providing an evidence-base of data to assess the connection between modern slavery, climate change and migration around the Bangladesh-India border. We indentify current thinking on the connections between modern slavery, climate change and migration both broadly and with a focus on the regions of interest in India and Bangladesh; establish the current expert understanding of these interconnected issues in order to identify areas for awareness raising and advocacy within programming activities; and elucidate trends and issues faced by survivors and vulnerable communities (focusing on migration, climate change and livelihood impacts, and gendered-effects) associated with modern slavery, climate change and migration. Findings from the study will be used to inform evidence-based integrated programming by in-country partners (Caritas India, Caritas Bangladesh and OKUP) throughout the Sundarbans regions.
