LabourShield

 AI

Rights Lab project lead: Dr Ben Brewster
Funder: FCDO
Duration: December 1st 2024 – 31st March 2025
Programme: Business and Economies Programme

LabourShield uses AI to help protect informal migrant workers from forced labour. The project pilots an AI-powered chatbot in India to provide brick kiln workers with vital information about their rights. Insights from the pilot guide improvements and assess the chatbot’s potential for scaling to other contexts, such as Malaysia. In Malaysia, we explore its use across different sectors, using data on migrant exploitation and geospatial analysis to identify high-risk areas. To ensure long-term impact, we focus on sustainability, examining help-seeking behaviours, social media integration, and regulatory considerations.
