This one-day event was organised by the Centre for Chinese Migration Studies (CCMS) and School of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham, with support from Asia Business Centre, Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Nottingham Trent University, and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

The event was jointly funded by the ESRC Festival of Social Science Programme, the University of Nottingham Integrating Society Priority Group Fund, the Asia Business Centre, and School of Contemporary Chinese Studies.

The purpose of the workshop was to promote university engagement with local communities and to raise awareness of the contribution of international students to local communities. Chinese students and Chinese communities in the UK and Nottingham were engaged in order to stimulate constructive discussion, interaction and collaboration between universities, local councils, civil society organisations, and Chinese communities, including Chinese students.
