Words for Walls was established in May 2016 to celebrate the city of Nottingham and our local poets (past, present, and future) by bringing poetry into public spaces across the city.
In summer 2016, the project ran a series of poetry workshops hosted by local practising poets and University of Nottingham students. These workshops aimed to inspire school groups and young people to write poetry and submit it for consideration for the first wave of printed poems.
A number of these poems and those submitted by active local writers have now been chosen and are on display, alongside poems by writers historically associated with Nottingham, in a number of exciting locations across the city.
Words for Walls is led by Nicola Thomas and Philip Jones, two PhD researchers in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Nottingham who specialise in the relationship between poetry and space, place, and landscape.
