Diagnostics and Therapeutics

More research from our team

Our highly regarded researchers are conducting a diverse range of projects related to tumours of the skin, soft tissue and bones. Exploring the behaviour of these tumours in dogs, they’re making important discoveries that will impact their prediction, diagnosis and treatment in humans.

Dr Cinzia Allegrucci, Dr Sarah Blott, Dr Simone de Brot, Dr Llorenç Grau Roma and Dr Victoria James are collaborating to study the pathology and molecular biology of cutaneous and soft tissue tumours in dogs. Their aim is to identify novel markers to better stage and predict disease behaviour and drive the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Dr Mark Dunning, Professor Nigel Mongan and Dr Catrin Rutland are studying the epidemiology and genetic basis of osteosarcoma in predisposed large breed dogs. The project aims to identify new targets for drug therapy and those with the potential to act as diagnostic and predictive markers. Given the current lack of effective treatment options and the prevalence of osteosarcoma in certain breeds, the development of tailored treatments and an ability to predict an individual’s risk of osteosarcoma will be critical in developing management and treatment strategies.
