More research from our team

Our respected research team is carrying out a diverse range of projects related to protein misfolding diseases, with the ultimate aim of driving better diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention.

Dr Kevin Gough is investigating the use of in vitro protein misfolding assays to enable:

  • Better diagnosis of transmissible and spontaneous prion diseases in animals
  • Screening for ligands that could inhibit protein misfolding events implicated in causing prion diseases, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, with the aim of developing novel therapeutics
  • Studying the cross-seeding ability of misfolded proteins from different PMDs
