Talk on place-names in Market Bosworth

Description: Dr John Baker gave a talk on place-names to an audience of schoolchildren, teachers and local residents at the Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth.

Talk to the Romsey history group

Description: On 11 April 2017 Dr John Baker gave a talk about place-name methodology to the Romsey history group in Winchester.

Names and History conference - call for papers

Description: A call for papers has been released for a conference on names as historical sources.

Staffordshire History Day 2017

Description: Jayne Carroll and Becca Gregory attended the annual Staffordshire History Day on 6 May 2017, representing the English Place-Name Society and the Staffordshire Place-Name Project.

Talk to the Rushcliffe Men's Probus group

Description: Becca Gregory gave a talk on place-names in Nottinghamshire to the Rushcliffe Men's Probus group.

Dr Carroll and Dr Baker elected Fellows of the Society of Antiquaries

Description: On 16 February 2017, Dr Jayne Carroll and Dr John Baker of the Institute for Name-Studies were formally admitted as Fellows of the Society of Antiquaries of London.

Staffordshire Place-Name Project launched

Description: ?An exciting new volunteer project has been launched in conjunction with the Staffordshire Archives and Heritage Service to restart collection of Staffordshire place-name material for use in the EPNS county survey.

English at Nottingham in the global top 50 subject ranking

Description: School of English achieves 49th position for English Language and Literature in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The Place-Names of Leicestershire, Part 7

Description: Part 7 of The Place-Names of Leicestershire, by Barrie Cox, is now available.

Journal 47 published

Description: The 47th volume of the Journal of the English Place-Name Society is now available, and has been distributed to EPNS members. It contains peer-reviewed articles and reviews of publications which may be of interest to the society's members.
