You will be asked to confirm that you consent to taking part in the study, before being asked a few questions about yourself, your views on your general health, and your knowledge and attitudes about HIV. The questionnaire should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
You will start receiving Health4U text messages 1–3 weeks after completing this questionnaire.
Why are you asking me to give demographic information about my country of birth, education, religion etc?
One of the main aims of this study is to see if people are interested in the idea of receiving text messages about health and HIV awareness. We are asking you for basic information about yourself so that we can assess who we are reaching with this intervention, which groups of people show the most interest in it, and which people feel that it is unsuitable for them. At the end of the study, we will be able to use this information to look at which groups of people benefitted most from the text messages. Please be reassured that we are asking you for general information about yourself, and it will not be possible to identify you individually.
Why are you asking me questions about my general health and knowledge and attitudes towards HIV?
Health4U is an innovative new research project which seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of text messages in promoting health and HIV screening among the African community in Nottingham.
In order to test if the text messages have been useful, it is important for us to see if participants’ attitudes and knowledge about health and HIV screening change after receiving Health4U text messages. This is done by comparing people’s questionnaire responses from before and after they start receiving the text messages.
Please be reassured that all responses will be combined so that it will not be possible to identify your individual responses.
