Biography

I completed a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2008 under the direction of Professors Clive Roberts and Martyn Davies (School of Pharmacy, Laboratory of Biophysics and Surface Analysis, www.nottingham.ac.uk/pharmacy/lbsa). My doctoral studies focused on the relationship between solid structure and oligonucleotide synthesis performance.

Upon completion of my PhD I spent a year working in industry for Nanoporous Solutions Ltd (Gateshead, UK) on material characterization of membranes/filters for air purification and water treatment technologies. Late in 2009 I returned to the University of Nottingham as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Engineering) working for Professors Colin Snape and Trevor Drage on novel adsorbents and processes for CO2 Capture Technologies. After the formation of the Cleaner Fossil Energy and Carbon Capture Technologies Research Group my research interests now involve CO2 Capture Technologies, Coal Liquefaction, Enhanced Coal Bed Methane Recovery and Shale Gas research.

Expertise Summary

I work part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers in the Cleaner Fossil Energy and Carbon Capture Technologies Research Group carrying out research and development studies in CO2 Capture Technologies, Coal and Biomass Utilization and the generation and fate of Oil and gas (shale gas and oil). I have over 10 years experience in the material characterization of porous and functionalized materials, using advanced characterization techniques such as Thermal Analysis, Gas Sorption, Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry, Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy.
