Aims

The aim of this seminar series was to examine major gaps in current knowledge and research concerning older (50 years or over) lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people.

These gaps, which have been identified by a thorough review of the existing literature and through feedback from academics, service providers, policy makers and older LGBT people are in six key areas: older bisexual people's lives; older trans people's experiences; race, ethnicity and religion in older LGBT people's lives; economics, resources and social networks; intergenerational issues; and health and social care.

Methods

The project involved a series of six themed seminars followed by a final conference, aimed at exploring gaps in knowledge and research about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Ageing, and identifying ways to address those gaps.

The project has successfully brought together academics, policy-makers, service providers, third-sector organisations, LGBT activists and advocacy groups and older LGBT people themselves.

Each seminar involved a combination of invited speakers and facilitated work groups.
